Free Game Friday 12/18/20: Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead
A roguelike like no other I've played, Cataclysm: Dark Days ahead is somewhat similar to the Adventure mode in Dwarf Fortress - you generate a world, generate a character and then do your best to survive all the hazards the game throws at you. And there are no shortage of them - as the title implies, you're in a world where everything that can go wrong already has. Zombies, aliens, Lovecraftian horrors, giant spiders, radiation, and all manner of other horrible things are going on. It's quite common to spawn into the world in a dangerous spot and immediately get killed, but those that manage to survive have some surprisingly fun possibilities - cultivating communities, building armies and even crafting giant Mad Max style death vehicles. It's open-source and has drop-in modding support too, so you can tweak it however you like. Tons of fun.
