Cheap deaths aplenty as we go through the trials of becoming a Necromancer.
As it turns out, there is a way to get the contents of the chest in the crypt leading to the Necromancers' lair. Once you've completed the trial and gotten all the spells, the shack will vanish, but the contents of the chest will be left behind. So just jump down from the ledge and walk a bit west to collect the magic leggings and about 80 Obsidian. Pretty inelegant but whatever, I'll take it.
