Let's Play Phantasy Star II Bonus: Stealing the Visiphone

Shir is a somewhat unconventional thief character for a JRPG in that she does not have any stealing techniques during battle; rather, she has a small chance to steal items from shops whenever you visit.  When she does, she will disappear from your party and only appear again once you revisit Rolf's house.

If you bring her to level 10 and visit the storage room in Paseo's central tower, she also has a small chance of stealing the Visiphone, an extremely useful item that allows you to save your game anywhere, anytime.  It's well worth the trouble.

Stuff Shir can steal

There are a few stealable items that you can't buy in any store.  These are marked with an asterisk.

Weapon Shops

Dagger
Laser Shot
Laser Knife
*Fire Staff (Best weapon for Amy, casts Foi when used in battle)

Armor Shops

Silver Crown
*Jewel Crown (Best headgear for Anna and Shir)
*Green Sleeves (Shield for Anna, casts Shinb when used in battle)
Shune Boots

Item Shops

Trimate
Hidapipe
*Star Mist (Fully heals the entire party)
*Moon Dew (Revives a dead character to full HP)

As you'd probably expect, the odds are tilted to give you the crap items over the good ones.  Don't be surprised if you get about 5-10 Daggers and Laser Knives for every Fire Staff you find...

Let's Play Phantasy Star II, Part 4

Having done some significant Meseta farming off-camera, we're now loaded for bear and ready to tackle Uzo Island and Climatrol, where the mastermind behind the monster attacks awaits.  But we'll find a lot more than we bargained for down there...

Let's Play Earthbound Bonus - Onett House

Totally pointless, but good for a chuckle.  This is the house you can buy in Onett once you save up $7500.  Which should be peanuts by the time you hit Fourside.

Let's Play Earthbound, Part 6

Our adventure takes us into some bizarro version of Fourside and through a labyrinth full of monkeys, then we storm Monotoli's tower in a valiant attempt to rescue Paula.  Oh, and then we fight the most annoying boss in the game.

Let's Play Phantasy Star II, Part 3

We root through the garbage to find a sailing ship, recruit the rest of our comrades, then get caught on a sudden difficulty spike. Looks like it's time to grind cash for a while...

Let's Play Earthbound, Part 5

We face the first, second, third, fourth and fifth strongest moles beneath the Dusty Dunes Desert, free the Runaway Five once again and then it's time to face the Earthbound equivalent of Mt. Itoi. Fortunately, it's much shorter than the real thing...

Let's Play Phantasy Star II, Part 1

For the second entry in the Phantasy Star franchise we jump ahead 1000 years, where a technological revolution has swept over the Algo system thanks to the supercomputer Mother Brain.  However, things are not all well as monsters once again begin to appear and no clues to their origin present themselves.  So it falls to Rolf, the last surviving descendant of Alis from the first game, to set out and discover exactly what's going on.

This is the point where the series takes on a much darker edge, trading in many of its fantastic elements for cyberpunk and its relatively simple story for one much more gritty in tone. This is also where the series moved away from 3D perspective dungeons to entirely 2D maps, making them much more of a challenge to navigate.

Let's Play Earthbound, Part 3

Fun with zombies, cavemen, possessed circus tents and aliens who speak in weird loopy fonts.
