Spoony Plays One-Shot: Ninja Gaiden III (Japanese Version)

SEIZURE WARNING: This video contains flashing images.

Just a spur-of-the-moment playthrough of the original Japanese version of Ninja Gaiden 3, which is much less annoying than the US release for many reasons:
  • Extra lives are much more commonplace.
  • Enemy patterns are less aggressive in general.
  • You take about half as much damage from all sources as in the US version.
  • There are level passwords.
  • There are unlimited continues (the US version only gives you five).
  • Checkpoints are much more limited in the US version.  Dying typically sets you all the way back at the beginning of the current sub-stage, whereas the Japanese version usually just puts you back at the start of the current room.  Continues also send you all the way back to the beginning of the current stage in the US version, whereas the Japanese version just sends you back to the start of the current sub-stage.
This version still has some of the same problems like sluggish controls and spotty hit detection, but the other differences greatly offset the frustration factor!
