New Adventures of Mega Man Issue 16 Page 28

Mayor Mike Haggar
Wait, we're ending with THAT?!  What the fuck, Magnum Press!

Mega Man
Alright, that's it. I can take the blackwashing of my franchise and all the characters within it. I can take the heavy emphasis on completely pointless violence. I can take the constant sex jokes. Hell, I can even take the blatant Mary Sue character trying to kill us all. But this... this is the image I will carry with me until the day I die. Capping off a bad Mega Man comic with some barely-explained crazy fucknut ripping a girl's heart out like Mola Ram for no reason WHAT-SO-GOD-DAMN-EVER!

I remind everyone that Capcom didn't pull the license after seeing that - the comic was cancelled solely because the company ran out of money and folded shortly after this issue saw print.

Well if Novas Aventuras de Megaman is any indication of their products' general quality, it's no wonder their profits were in the toilet!

According to my research, this comic only came about because its creators had already attained some success by publishing an anime/manga-centered magazine and helping to push the Brazilian premiere of Akira.  So, hoping to capitalize further on this new market, Editora Magnum got ahold of the Mega Man license and told them to make an original manga-styled series based on it.  But as neither of them had made a comic before or knew anything about Mega Man (and our old friend José was only interested in using the project to push his own fictional universe), the comic quickly devolved into a messy, nonsensical affair that has virtually nothing to do with its namesake.

As for Editora Magnum, I found out that they were mostly known for publishing gun magazines, hence their name.  But more interestingly, they were also responsible for publishing several of DC's comics in Brazil.  So ironically enough, the very same company that brought Princess' little crusade into the public eye helped to perpetuate the Brazilian market's influx of American-made comics.  What do you think of that, Princess?

Well, I--

It was a rhetorical question, nobody cares.

It's 6:00 and time for the Netherworld news!

It's been a constant downhill spiral for this comic since the second issue, with the final quarter being a particularly bad, overlong series of pointless battles with absolutely nothing substantive happening at all.  But we've finally reached the end!  All that remains is to close out this beast once and for all!

And now, our conclusion!
