Let's Play SaGa Frontier (Blue's Quest)

No "Part 1" this time, because this quest is covered in one video.

Most of Blue's quest is just doing the various magic side-quests to get yourself prepared for your showdown with Rouge, then you move on to the game's final dungeon.  Since I decided early on that I wouldn't show any quests more than once in this LP, that just leaves us with this.

I did go ahead and recruit Dr. Nusakan though, since Blue is one of only two characters who can get the guy (the other being Riki).  Just start up the Rune quest and then talk to him at his lab.  The rest of the team gets rounded out with T260, Liza (the goddess of fisticuffs) and Roufas.

Let's Play SaGa Frontier (Asellus' Quest), Part 3

We've got a score to settle with Orlouge, so it's time to return to Facinaturu and do just that.

I thought I was en route to the Half-Mystic ending in this playthrough (having equipped and used my Mystic powers and rescued Gina), but I guess I was wrong because the game gave me the "Full Mystic" one.  I tried redoing the battle in Half-Mystic form, but I still ended up with the full Mystic ending.  I'm not really sure how the multiple endings are supposed to work, so I'll just link all three of them below.

Human ending, "As it should be"
Half-Mystic ending, "Paradise found"
Full-Mystic ending, "Asellus the tyranness"

Let's Play SaGa Frontier (Asellus' Quest), Part 2

The main reason I never finished Asellus' quest on previous attempts: It's one gigantic grind.  Grind to power up your characters and earn money for equipment, then go traipsing around all of the major dungeons waiting for Orlouge's lackeys to appear.  Rinse and repeat five times.

Potential places they can appear:

  • Back Street/Sewers (Koorong)
  • Sei's Tomb and Mu's Tomb (Shrike)
  • Luminous
  • Garden (Kyo)
  • Liquor shrine exterior (Yorkland)
  • Hilltop shrine (Devin)
  • Ruins (Shingrow)
  • Lord's Manor (Owmi)
  • Wakatu

Thankfully, they will only appear very early into the dungeons, so if you wander more than a few rooms in and you don't find them, you can try somewhere else.  Also keep in mind that you won't encounter two events back to back - you'll have to take a break to fight a few random battles before the next one will appear.

Let's Play Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, Part 8

We return to the hidden village to report in, and meet up with several old acquaintances as we set out again.

Characters introduced this time (in order of appearance)

Dio Odie
Voiced by: Doug Erholtz

At last the truth is out: The Dio we know is not actually Dio of the Evil Eye, but in fact a Dracosage named "Odie".  He's pretty pathetic as a person, but not too shabby on the battlefield at least.

Haephnes
Voiced by: ?

Her name is revealed at last.  She has ties to Vigilance/Gig, as well as being a central figure in Revya's past.  Her ultimate motive is still pretty vague.

Tricia
Voiced by: Wendee Lee

A young archer and guardian of Zazana who has ties to both Grunzford and Shauna.  A competent fighter, but a bit on the naive side.

Let's Play Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, Part 7

Thorndyke makes his move and we have a big fight with our old friend Feinne.

Sorry about the sound desyncing, I was having some some serious HDD issues at the time of the recording.  It's not too bad at least, the sound just lags a second or so behind the video instead of progressively worsening.

Characters introduced this time (in order of appearance)

Chairman Gooden

A member of Raide's legislature who witnesses firsthand just how corrupt his king his.

 King Strauss VIII
Voiced by: ?

The king of Raide, who hatched a mad plan to acquire a Crimson Tear and fuse with the World Eater.  He gets his just desserts, at least.

Let's Play SaGa Frontier (Asellus' Quest), Part 1

And now for the only quest I've not yet managed to actually finish: Asellus!

This story seems to be a fan favorite for some reason, possibly because it's a thinly veiled piece of vampire fiction.  Also, strong lesbian overtones.

This quest is also quite difficult, starting you off with virtually no equipment and pitting you against one of the toughest mini-bosses in the game less than an hour in.  It also doesn't help that Asellus has a relatively limited roster of recruitable characters, or that once you defeat the Fire Sage, you're liable to be attacked by any of Orlouge's other minions at any time while just venturing through dungeons.  So I guess the lesson here is not to visit Asellus' house until you've ground out some hefty stats and money for equipment.  Or just use the Takonomics trick.

Ah yes, this is also the only quest besides Emelia's with multiple endings.  These hinge on two major factors - whether you choose to use Asellus' Mystic abilities during her quest, and whether you choose to rescue Gina during the final sequence.

Human Ending: Don't use any Mystic abilities and save Gina.
Half-Mystic Ending: Don't use any Mystic abilities and abandon Gina OR Save Gina and use your Mystic abilities.
Mystic Ending: Use your Mystic abilities and abandon Gina.

Let's Play the Mega Man Hendecalogy Bonus: Mega Man Powered Up

A remake of the original Mega Man game for the PSP, adding in two new Robot Masters and giving you the ability to unlock and play through the story as any of them (in addition to Roll, Proto Man and several versions of Mega Man himself).  The most prominent feature in the package is the included level editor, which allows players to build custom stages with "part packs" found in levels and even upload them to Capcom's servers for others to play.  So in that way the game is kind of an early precursor to LittleBigPlanet, only without the staggering mediocrity.

Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X were intended to be the first of a series of reimagined Mega Man games; however, low sales quickly put a damper on those plans and led to later games in the classic Mega Man franchise being relegated to budget-priced digital downloads.  Unfortunately, despite the success of Mega Man 9 and 10, the outlook doesn't look good for the franchise - Keiji Inafune's departure from Capcom and the subsequent cancellation of two highly anticipated Mega Man titles (Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3) has left the future of the series in doubt.
